Will the Violent Offenders’ Registry be retroactive?

  • While we would prefer the Registry to be retroactive, so that offenders like James Worley would be included, the Ohio Constitution and Ohio case law makes that difficult. We are researching how it may be possible, however, we do not want to give up the purpose or the intent of the registry to accomplish that one goal.

Will people on the Registry have to live a certain distance from schools, parks, etc.?

  • As we are still in the research phase, we cannot answer that at this time. The General Assembly will have a say once the Bill is before them as well. We will update the answer to this question as we write the Petition.

  • As a Non-Profit, we do not get to make these kind of decisions. Once this petition becomes a Bill, the Ohio General Assembly will discuss which of the government agencies would be best. The Sexual Offenders’ Registry is currently controlled and monitored by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.
